Summary
  • Marine Spatial Planning Pathway - This pathway is designed to give you a detailed knowledge and understanding of the rationale, development and implementation of Marine Spatial Planning. It also aims to enable you to analyse and evaluate the conflicting pressures associated with marine resource development and protection, and to provide solutions in light of sustainable development.
  • Duration: Full time 1 year and Part time 2 years
  • Entry requirements: Honours degree (or equivalent) in any one of the following: Maritime-related Studies; Environmental Science; Engineering; Management; Transport; Economics; Geography; Business or Law. Please note that this list is not exclusive. Alternatively, a Higher National Diploma (Merit or Distinction award) or ordinary degree in a maritime-related subject combined with an appropriate track record of achievement in a professional context such as at a senior managerial level may be sufficient. In the case of professional mariners, the entry requirements are as follows:
    • Deck Officer: Master's (Unlimited) Certificate + at least two years' experience as Chief Officer.
    • Ship Engineer: Chief Engineer (Class 1) Certificate + at least two years' as Chief Engineer.
  • Fees: Full time - for students ordinarily residing in the UK and European Union £2,975 and for international students £8,895. For part-time students ordinarily residing in UK or a member state of the European Union, the fees are: Year 1, £1490 and year 2, £1490.
  • Scholarship: £ 1,000 scholarship available to a limited number of full time international students from Bangladesh, Caribbean, Ghana, India, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Tanzania and Thailand
Programme This Southampton Solent University course is part of the taught MSc programme in International Maritime Studies (IMS) which is designed to provide a period of intensive study in a specialist maritime area. The programme offers intellectually challenging courses with a diversity of learning experiences that aim to provide you with the skills and knowledge to operate competently within these developing areas.
Career Opportunities The course aim to produce graduates who are both technically competent and capable of management at project level and above. It is expected that those who have completed the course may look towards roles such as project managers within relevant maritime organisations and business, research and development professionals, managers involved in the development of policies and, managers involved in the implementation of policies.
