The College Facilities

London Institute of Shipping & Transport is part of the Royal Waterloo Centre, a six story self-contained building housing extensive educational facilities including a study library, bookshop, cafeteria, restaurant and computer room.

The Centre is ideally situated in the heart of London next to the River Thames and Britain's largest cultural centre, the South Bank complex. We are within a mile of the Houses of
Parliament and there is direct access to all parts of London. The close proximity to the Eurostar Terminal at Waterloo offers easy access to destinations across Europe. It is also within walking distance of the famous 'London Eye'.

Social and Cultural Activities

A lively and varied programme of social and cultural events is available throughout the year. All students are encouraged to join in these activities which offer fun and social interaction.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES:
Our central London location gives student access to one of the world's great cultural centres. London is also famous for its nightlife, restaurants and shopping facilities with opportunities to suit every taste and price range, from world famous stores like Harrods to the many street markets such as Portobello, Camden, etc. Trips are arranged to traditional and contemporary theatre productions, to concerts and art galleries, as well as some of the many museums for which London is famous (British Museum, Natural History Museum, Science Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum etc). The many stately homes in London and the South East also feature in our programme, including Hampton Court Palace, Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace, residence of the Royal Family.

EXCURSIONS:

Further afield, we organise regular day trips to the many resorts on the south coast (eg, Brighton, Eastbourne, Hastings) and to the historic cities of Oxford, Cambridge, Canterbury and Stratford-Upon-Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare. Weekend trips also feature in our schedule, to places such as Blackpool, Dublin, Scotland and Wales and the beautiful Lake District.

INDUSTRIAL VISITS:
The Institute organises a number of student visits to organisations or locations which are of practical relevance and have included Lloyds of London, Baltic Exchange, London Stock Exchange, the Bank of England, the LIFFE Exchange, the Houses of Parliament, the Law Courts, major newspapers and international corporations like Ford Motor Works, as well as small local businesses. The visits offer a great opportunity to appreciate the implications and applications of the theories taught in the classroom.
